Wylde Embers

Hi everyone!
Sorry for the lack of blog posts of late. Had a lot of personal issues to sort out over the last couple of weeks.
I have also been keeping busy doing my pyrography. I have now created a Facebook page for my wood burning which I have called Wylde Embers.

I have created several boxes including a Elen of the ways box and a Avalon tarot box for Zee.

Elen of the ways box featuring a doe.

Zee asked for a box to keep her Avalon oracle cards safe and asked that it included images associated with Avalon.

I got busy sketching out some ideas on paper which I then drew on to the box. As I worked more ideas for images came to mind and the box turned out to be one of the easiest designs I had made. I look forward to next weekends moot when I can give it to her.

This was based on a image her husband took of her greeting the sunrise.

Have also been creating totem key rings and I made a key ring for one of my work colleagues of his pet dog Diesel.

I have been a digital artist for over ten years, I love creating art in this medium but I had a hard time explaining to others how the images are created. With pyrography nothing needs to be explained. You can easily tell that all the markings have been created using a hot tool.

Everyone seems to really like my new art medium and I am loving my new craft. You can find me busy burning designs almost every day and I am getting commissions.
One such commission was for a key ring featuring a antlered goddess form and a copy of a box I had already made but had sold before.

Also I have been busy studying for my Celtic Moon pagan project. The purpose of the project is to dedicate time to explore our spirituality and perhaps look at other paths that perhaps have always intrigued us but never been more than a passing interest.
For me I have chosen to look at shamanism in it's many disguises but mostly the use of drums in shamanism. I will explain this further in a future blog post.

Until next time!

More fun with pyrography

Blessings of Imbolc to you all. Finally we are seeing the light lasting that little bit longer each day and the first stirrings of green shoots can been seen in the brown earth.

The past week has been quite hard for me as one of the members of my family is quite ill in hospital and we are unsure at the moment for their future.

I have been keeping myself busy of late with my pyrography. Since I last posted about it I have been bust practising the craft on paper, wood and leather.
here is a selection of what I have burnt so far:

Lady of Avalon and Badger keyring

keijo our dog

Dia De Los Muertos

Mountain Lion and cub with a work in progress showing sketch, outline, shading, shadows and finish.

Thor's hammer

Taking photos of pyrography is turning out to be quite difficult and they look better in the flesh.

I am loving this new craft and have many requests for designs which I look forward to starting on. I am currently waiting for some small plain wooden chests to arrive that I plan to decorate.

The art of burning

For Christmas I got a pyrography tool. I have always wanted to take up this craft as a hobby and I am having a lot of fun trying out the different nibs.
So far I have only burnt on thick gsm paper but I can't wait to try burning images on to wood and leather.

This was my first large image attempt, still along way to go but I am happy with the result.

Also, happy birthday to Elvis and David Bowie!

Another year older...

Last Friday (7th Dec) was my birthday. Soon the 20s will be behind me but I do not lament! I am going to enjoy being this side of 30 as much as possible in the next year.
I thought I would show you what lovely gifts I received this year.

This lovely original ACEO of Elen of the Ways by the talented Esther Remmington. The leather frame was made by Martin Winkles of EBG Leather. (oh and some red polka dot slipper socks)

Esther also took a photo which shows the colours more true to life.

I also got these amazing studded Creepers. I have wanted a pair for ages.

And these lovely red boots too. I do love my footwear!

I also got some Hotel Chocolat Chocolate; yum! And a chunky knit cardigan with reindeer's on as well as other goodies.

The Magical Faerie Festival 2012

Last weekend I went to a Faerie festival run by The Magical Times Magazine. This is the first of two outdoor camps held in a beautiful village of Findon near Worthing and this time I took a stall with me to sell my artwork and mini top hats!
I turned up on Friday with my tent and trading wares packed into the smart car. People scratch their head and wonder how (and indeed why) I do it!
Tent, air bed, sleeping bag, shelves, art work. Check!

Good job it was just me going to this one otherwise we would of had to bring both Smart cars!

During the day more and more people came to set up camp and stalls and it was nice to be with my faerie friends again.
The evenings entertainment was supplied by the wonderful Serpentyne. I remember learning some medieval court dances and roaring like a bear... The wine went straight to my head!

The next day we had breakfast and set up the stall again. Fellow artists Esther Remmington and Martin Winckles allowed me to share their gazebo with them which I was very thankful for as it did decide to rain half way through the day.

Mini top hats for sale!

More of my wares, including toadstool house earrings.

During the day I got a henna tattoo done, I went for a Steampunk heart theme. How cool is that?
On the Saturday evening there was a faerie ball with music from The excellent Touch the Earth, Endless knot and Eleanor and the Lost. This is a time when people come out in their faerie best and I was pleased to see many people sporting their Mini top hats that they had brought from me earlier that day

After this photo was taken it began to rain so we piled in to the marquee to hear Matthew Callow sing!

During this time the rain continued to come down harder and the wind picked up. After Endless Knot finished playing and Eleanor and her band began to set up and play the rain was coming down in a deluge. So much so that the ground under the marquee was turning boggy and it became too dangerous with all the electric equipment every where. The set was cut short and every faerie, witch, elf and sprite ran as fast as they could back to their tents.

That night was was one of the worse nights sleep I have had in a long time. I was completes soaked and there was no where to get dry so I snuggled in my sleeping bag and hoped my tent wouldn't float away!

Early Sunday morning I awoke to the sound of crows cawing and people surveying the damage of the rains over night. Luckily all the stock was dry as I had put it in the car before going to the ball. Phew!
After packing up the soggy tent and gazebo we decided to get on the road and find some where to have lunch. It was a shame the weather decided to change as the weekend before it had been glorious. Oh well much fun was had at any rate.

Would just like to add that today (8th June 2012) our beloved pet Codie Claws was put to sleep after weeks of deterioration in health. He was a beautiful Siamese kitty who I shall always remember with lots of love.
